You know when we go to conferences, we get the plastic name badges to hang around our necks? My friends and I always stick our room keys, drivers licenses, credit cards and cash in there so we can keep our hands free while still having what we need.

When my friend Arlyn asked me to help with her ID Matters booth at the national RID Conference in Philadelphia, she offered me the opportunity to sell something as well. Since my sister-in-law Debbie is a professional seamstress, and I enjoy doing machine embroidery, we decided to collaborate. After several brainstorming sessions, we came up with ID pouches.

Based loosely on those plastic name badges, ours are made of Cordura nylon. Folded in half, one side is a plastic window that uses a heavy duty hook and loop closure (Velcro type) for your ID badge (or license or ???). Turn it around, and there’s an embroidered zippered pocket (or you can get it plain), so you can be stylishly anonymous (and my iPhone fits in it, too). Open, they’re about 10  inches long by five inches wide, with an open pocket  where a boarding pass and/or passport can fit  nicely. There are also two zippered pockets for change or whatever. The neck cord is doubled with a cord lock, so if you’d prefer to wear it across your body it can be down by your hip.

We currently have four colors and 23 different embroidery designs. You can look at those below. Other colors and designs may be available on request. Prices range from $20 for plain pouches, $25 for simple embroidered designs, to $30 and up for more complicated designs, depending on the amount of time and thread it takes. My sister-in-law also makes purses. You can check out some of her styles
